このごろの日本はおかしい。誰が考えてもおかしい。
その理由と、こころある人がきっと感じているもどかしい気持ちを事実に基づいて整理し、理路整然と文章表現する、高村薫さんの記事(東京新聞6月14日夕刊）。その記事をここに残しておく。忘れないために。
権力のしがらみにがんじがらめにされ、言いわけ・自己正当化に走り、民衆との乖離を計れなくなった政治家たちを、何とか一掃する方法はないのだろうか。この人のように心のつよい、頭の良い、論理的な人を首相に！

 1965年、横浜市大に遠山茂樹先生がおられ、日本史好きの私がその生徒となれたことは、私の人生で最も幸運だったことの一つです。生徒としては全く成果を上げられなかった私ですが、私の理解を超える遙かな高みで学問の世界に生きる先生を、心から尊敬し尊崇していました。

 卒業する時、「キミはおおらかな人だね」と言って励ましてくださった先生、亡くなられた今、先生の横浜市大での講義ノートを見るる機会がありました。右ページに講義のシナリオをきれいな字できっちり書き、見開きの左ページにそれに関するノートがビッシリ書いてありました。講義の時に学生がノートに書き取れるよう、ゆっくり読んでおられたのを懐かしく思い出しました。 |

市大から聖路加病院へ移られた川辺先生にお会いするために病院へ行った帰りに、東から西へほぼ一直線に1時間半ほど横切ったときに見えた興味深い風景!

No nation escapes unscathed from an earthquake of the magnitude that struck Japan yesterday. At least 1,000 people have died. For all that damage, it is remarkable how well this island nation of more than 126 million people has withstood the fifth largest earthquake since 1900. Registering a stunning 8.9, the earthquake near Sendai produced a 30-foot high tsunami that hurtled toward some 53 countries.
Despite these powerful forces, one cannot help but note how relatively well prepared the Japanese were to survive such an assault from mother Earth. Japan stands, literally, as a testament to how human planning and industrialized society can cope with natural disasters.
Visited the White House with my friends in the U.S.. Very fortunate.
“Walk fast!” “Go straight!” Oh, I was so scared!
Inside, we were guided into about ten rooms only on the ground floor with a guide. Profiles of the Presidents, family members and other guests were interesting. The painting of John F. Kennedy on the corridor was different from others. He looked calm or sad, as he closed his eyes and looked down. That was so impressive. The guide explained the reason to me that the profile was painted after his sudden death so the painter was not able to draw his eyes.
