Former Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa scored on his Borussia Dortmund return as the Germans warmed up for Tuesday’s Champions League visit of Arsenal with a win over Freiburg.
Kagawa, in his second spell at Dortmund, doubled the hosts’ lead after Adrian Ramos’s opener.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made sure of the win with an individual effort, before Oliver Sorg’s consolation.
Dortmund have won two of their three Bundesliga matches this season.
Kagawa, 25, has signed a four-year deal with the German club, for whom he played from 2010 to 2012, prior to his move to Old Trafford for £12m.
The Japan international scored six goals in 57 appearances for United during a two-year spell in which he found it difficult to secure a regular starting spot in the first XI.
“I wanted to realise my Premier League dream but now I’m happy to be back in Dortmund in this great team. Dortmund is like a family,” the midfielder said.

Former Manchester United playmaker Shinji Kagawa has said that he feels he has nothing to prove when his new side Borussia Dortmund play Arsenal in the Champions League tonight. Furthermore, the midfielder also claimed he is “back where he belongs.
Kagawa left Dortmund to join United in 2012 and he failed to have any sort of an impact in England and this summer he returned to Dortmund, scoring on his debut against Freiburg on the weekend.
Dortmund now play Arsenal in the Champions League but Kagawa has said that he does not think he has anything to prove to English fans.
Jurgen Klopp says he was surprised that Shinji Kagawa was available
Kagawa said that he was thrilled to be back with Dortmund because he believes that he is finally back where he belongs and somewhere that feels like home.
Kagawa said “I had a feeling when I left Dortmund that it would not be a door that was shut forever,
“I had a real ambition to play in England – but now I feel I am back where I belong.
“Being back with Dortmund feels like being back with family – and as a player there is no better feeling than that.
“I don’t feel like I have anything to prove to the fans in England – but I know that in England they did not see the best of me.
“Already I am feeling that I am on the way back to the level I want to be.
“It will take time – but I am finally on the right path.”
Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is known to be very close to Kagawa and the manager has already said that he was extremely surprised to discover that the Japanese international was on the market.
